This is well written and full of good information. I like what you said about making it personal. I have had no training in philosophy but I have done some reading on Christian ethics. Jesus railed against religiosity and was more concerned about the state of the heart. He said many times, you have heard it said…..but I say….

He summarized the entirety of scripture with love God and love your neighbor. All actions are to be filtered through the filter of love. In your example of whether it is right to lie to save someone from a potential murderer, the most loving thing should be done. The problems that I have are sometimes I am not a loving person. And if I am loving, I don’t always know what the loving thing to do is.

Seeing actions through the filter of love is an awesome example, Joel! I'm going to have to try going through a week with the question 'what's the most loving thing that should be done here' before acting

Oh wow, Nur, this is really a great piece of writing! I have also written a bit about the redemptive powers of anger and I agree completely that it has a very useful purpose when you're able to harness and utilize it constructively. Good read, man. Thanks for this!

I almost never promote my work directly to someone, so please forgive me this one time. This is my piece I was referring to if you think you might be interested. 😊

Anger is a human emotion that can’t be avoided. And there is a place for righteous anger. Anger against evil, for instance. What I do with my anger is what matters. Do I use it to correct an injustice or do I use it to hurt someone?

Rarely do I hear about the necessity and use of anger. But here it is. If it’s an emotion, what makes it unnecessary compared to others? What makes it “bad” is how we express it, right? So…I get why society demands that we suppress it, but it’s not healthy. This was a good explanation of what it actually is. Finally got around to reading it. 🤘🏼

If someone could’ve guaranteed I would’ve learned what you are teaching in an actual philosophy class, I would’ve signed up. Thanks for sharing your insights. “It’s the N to the U to the R” 😂

Thanks CB! This means a lot since one of the reasons I started writing online years ago was to try to make jargon packed philosophy more accessible

Love this, Nur! Thank you for being so entertaining!

And while I'm at it, I'll also thank you for your thoughts on art made in collaboration with AI- something I've been mulling over for a little bit! Naturally I ended up smack dab in the middle of Nuance-land. A world I know well and love to be. :)

So glad it helped! Writing song lyrics consistently has always seemed impossibly hard to me so more power to however you end up doing so!

Ha! I ❤️ your attitude!

Personally, I will NEVER use AI for anything, I will not judge those who do. I've never even played around with chat gpt. Heck I even leave the house without my phone all the time!

I like how hard it is to write good lyrics. I'm up for the challenge of the craft. Here's the thing though- I AM a song-writer. Going on 30+ years! However, not everyone is. Many just do it for fun and entertainment. I cannot nor should I hold anyone else up to my standard of taking the craft seriously.

Very cool and I respect the hell out of that. I feel the same way with AI and writing and noticed that I actually do tend to hold people to similar standards, for better or worse. I don’t someone uses AI if they’re super forthcoming about it. It’s the one’s who try to pass it off as their own work and are later called out that get under my skin, lol.

Dearest Nur....Oh how much I think students of philosophy would think when they read this..."I wish I had a teacher like this guy"!!!! So thoughtfully and beautifully written. I spent decades kidding myself I had no anger. I had it, but just could not face it or find a channel for it. Now I can. I also discovered along the way that anger emerges from the soil of love. No love, no anger. The flame in anger is the love. When I discovered that, I could say hello to the anger in me, let it show its full face, and then have a cup of tea with it. You Nur are a bloody legend!!! ❤️

I respect all these past smart dudes and dudets who gained knowledge through experiences, thought real hard cue the think man statue, then discussed this new found view or thoughts that made sense of all the life and colors we see and feel. Think about how a dog would experience what you are experiencing off subject I just remember as a kid I saw a dog running wild and found another dog in a backyard the male jumps the fence and to starts you know to the other dog, people came outside yelling, and the dog with his ears back jumps the fence on the other side and escapes.

My first experience on knowing what a dog in heat is, I have never seen that again-I see dogs running wild still but never a rated xxx show. Think was saying as I get other and encounter other people especially college educated or heavy deep in spirituality like Thrice, I live and weather late late late late late revaluate what is written I find all the time. Tried to use the 🎙️ speaker for spelling revelator no revaluate

Nur,

Anger is a secondary emotion and a learned response to hurt, pain, rejection and frustration. There is a big difference between righteous anger, that which protects the innocent and vulnerable (sometimes including ourselves), and anger seeking control and revenge. If performance was/is the only way you found acceptance from those who were supposed to, or promised to love you, then love, mercy, forgiveness and grace do not exist in your experience or world. The natural emotional progression is hurt, fear, feelings of rejection, loss, abandonment, and frustration.…all leading to the justification of our anger/rage.

Anger is both a coping mechanism, and a means to control others I.e. if I can’t have love and acceptance…I’ll settle for the fear, respect and/or submission of others.

This battle is as old as the Garden of Eden, and repeats every generation since mankind into sin. We must believe in Jesus Christ, repent of our own sins and forgive others for theirs, that we might be forgiven and restored to wholeness. Then we are accepted and beloved by Father God through His Son our Savior Jesus Christ; the only acceptance that truly matters now and through eternity.

Be not deceived, we all reap what we sow and there is a day of reckoning; comes down to who paid for our sins….Jesus Christ the Savior or us?

Father God tells us to “be angry, but sin not,” and “vengeance is Mine”says the Lord.
