Shortly after 9/11, I went to a computer 🖥️ show where people sold their products.

A 12 year old Muslim boy was at his father’s booth sitting in a chair 🪑 with his head down practically shaking from fear. The sadness in his eyes broke my heart. ♥️

Glad your friends supported you!

When ever asked my race I answer HUMAN.

Oh Nur, my heart breaks both for the young boy who witnessed his compatriots turn against him and the man who felt compelled to write about it as a warning for others. I sorry that happened to you, but I absolutely believe what you say because I saw it unfold myself within the very white and very Republican town I lived in when 9/11 happened. And that hatred stuck hard in this area, because even years and years later when my husband and my children and I were homeless and seeking assistance from a Christian charity in town, and we mentioned that we had friends back in Texas who were Muslim and who were lovely people, we actually felt the temperature in that interview room drop to freezing. We were subsequently denied help by that organization and I know in my heart the reason was exactly that comment that I innocently made thinking that maybe all the years in between had softened people's hearts. Racism is a sickness that this country is afflicted by at it's deepest roots. I wish I knew the secret to getting rid of it.
